Aftermath
The party materialises in front of the Iifa tree, which is writhing in agony. As they worry about its fate, the Hilda Garde 3 lands and picks them up. But before Zidane leaves, he hears Kuja's voice; he realises he has to do something about the poor fool. The party tells him he's being a fool himself, but Zidane is adamant that he should go to Kuja.
Zidane § I have to face up to it, just like Vivi did when he confronted his fears
to find out about himself. That was a big decision for Vivi.
Vivi § I don't know about that...I don't think it was really a big deal.
Zidane § That's what you think, but I might not be doing this if it weren't for you. You've
definitely taught me to take life more seriously.
The party reluctantly let's him go; Vivi thanks him for teaching him yet another important life lesson. When they're safely away, Zidane runs toward the Iifa tree, dodging its flailing limbs and eventually finding himself inside. Kuja lies there dying, regretting what he's done and finally realising what it means to live. Zidane sticks by his side even as the tree attacks.
Some time later, Puck runs into Vivi on the streets of Alexandria, but Vivi doesn't recognise him. Puck asks him who he is, and "Vivi" admits he's none other than Vivi's son! Out marches a group of Vivi replicas from behind Puck. They're off to see the new play put on by Tantalus.
The play is a hit with the audience, but Garnet's mind is elsewhere. Suddenly, the leading man throws off his cloak, exposing himself as none other than Zidane! Garnet rushes from the castle and through the crowds, barely pausing even as her necklace falls off. Zidane jumps off of the stage and the two embrace to the cheers of all of their friends around them.
