Meeting Quina is quite a surprise for Vivi, who immediately recognises the similarities between his Grandpa and Quina. Quina, being a bit rambunctious, is a little intimidating, and Vivi can seem more than a little shier around the big Qu. Even so, Vivi takes to Quina and Quina to Vivi. For Vivi, Quina invokes a reminiscence of his Grandpa.

Throughout the game, Quina is often paired with Vivi. When Vivi questions his race, Quina insists that though s/he isn't human, Vivi certainly is. In Cleyra, Vivi and Quina scour the strange city together. In one of the most hilarious scenes in the game, Vivi and Quina get hitched in order to bypass security to get to Madain Sari and the Iifa Tree. A comic duo and true comrades, Vivi and Quina are.

Vivi § ...Oh yeah, [Grandpa] said something like...'Vivi! I learn art of fulfilment without eating food!'

From his/her cooking to the way s/he speaks, Quina reminds Vivi a lot of his Grandpa. When Vivi is thinking about his Grandpa, he inevitably thinks of Quina. In a way, Quina helps Vivi bring to mind his Grandpa and what he represented and believed. In return, Vivi provides a link to the spirit of his Grandpa for Quina (and Quale of Qu), who teaches Quina how to master the art of cooking with imagination.
