Wielding a magic staff and having the power of offensive magic at his disposal, Vivi is a formidable fighter in battle. He's the only character who can use black magic, and as such he's an invaluable member to have in a fight.

Vivi is quite comfortable in battle, often bouncing back and forth from foot-to-foot in battle while waiting for his turn. When casting a spell, Vivi pulls his staff in front of him and closes his eyes slightly, rocking back and forth. As magic energy pops and sparkles around him, he jumps up in imitation of a skip, twirling his staff skyward and unleashing the spell. Though not much of a physical attacker, Vivi can run up to the enempy and bop them with his staff for a small amount of damage.

Vivi has a wide range of spells in his magical roster that include the basic elements — fire, ice and electricity — as well as some more powerful spells. Vivi is best utilised for his magic abilities and can be placed in the back row without a detrimental consequence. However, this makes it harder for him to achieve Trance; equipping the High Tide ability can help counteract this.

Focus

Vivi's character-specific special battle ability is focus. This ability allows him to increase his magic power for the next spell cast. Selecting this ability multiple times — without casting a spell in between — can greatly increase the next spell's power.
